Lufthansa City Airlines has commenced flight operations from Frankfurt, expanding to the Lufthansa Group’s primary hub after previously opening services from Munich.

The carrier aims to have seven Airbus A320neos operating from Frankfurt by autumn this year.

Its initial service departed Frankfurt for Manchester on 9 February, and the network will broaden to Berlin, Valencia this month followed by Dusseldorf and Malaga in March once a second aircraft arrives.

Lufthansa City Airlines will then expand to London Heathrow, Stockholm, Hamburg, Helsinki, Bucharest, Bilbao, Ibiza and Marseille from the summer.

The carrier began operating from Munich in 2024 and has built a fleet of 13 aircraft at the hub.

“We are simultaneously strengthening our market position and laying the foundation for further growth within the group,” says chief operating officer Peter Albers.

Lufthansa City Airlines, which already has 450 employees, says it expects to hire 80 pilots and 200 cabin crew personnel over the next few months to support its growth.
