Aerial services provider Avincis has begun its diversification into the offshore windfarm support sector with the acquisition of Danish firm KN Helicopters for an undisclosed fee.

Avincis says the deal provides it with “an entry point into the rapidly developing offshore wind market” as continues its expansion into new services and territories as part of a global growth plan.

Founded in 2013 in Esbjerg, KN Helicopters has been providing support services to the offshore wind industry since 2016 and has secured contracts with companies including Vattenfall and Siemens Gamesa.

It operates a trio of Airbus Helicopters H135s and a single H145 and employs around 30 people.

John Boag, Avincis chief executive, says the purchase is “testament to our appetite for further growth and expansion into new sectors and regions.

“Offshore wind energy has an exciting future, and we are looking forward to supporting wind farm owners in Denmark with the same dedicated helicopter services we have been providing in other global markets for 60 years.”

KN Helicopters’ co-founder and chief executive Niels Peter Kjeldahl will continue to lead the business following the transaction.
