One of Slovakian carrier AirExplore’s Boeing 737-800s has suffered a runway excursion while landing at Krakow airport in Poland.

The aircraft, arriving from the Turkish resort of Antalya on 14 September, had been operating on behalf of Polish leisure carrier Enter Air.

It landed on runway 25 shortly after 13:30.

Enter Air says the twinjet “veered onto an unpaved section” of the airport while landing “in very difficult weather conditions” including “heavy rain”.

Meteorological data from Krakow airport at the time of the occurrence indicates rain, with cumulonimbus cloud having been in the vicinity earlier.

“All passengers are safe,” says Enter Air, adding that they disembarked the aircraft via stairs.

“We are ensuring continuity of operations – subsequent flights will be operated using aircraft from the Enter Air fleet,” it adds.

NOTAM information for Krakow states that runway 07/25 was closed after the incident. The airport operator says it is likely to remain shut until 22:00.

It adds that several flights – including services operated by LOT, Swiss, Ryanair and Wizz Air – are being diverted to Katowice airport.

AirExplore operates several 737-800s. The aircraft involved in the Krakow incident (OM-FEX) is a 1998 airframe which joined its fleet in 2015.
